Police investigating a suspected dating-app fraud found two manuals on the suspect's smartphone, including one sold by a woman previously convicted of obtaining money through romantic deception, Japan's TV Asahi reports on its All-Nippon News Network channel, ANNnewsCH.
The October 28 Good! Morning report said Tokyo police planned to rearrest Yoshiko Takamatsu on suspicion of defrauding a man in his 50s. It also carries an extended interview with another man, in his 60s, who describes how a relationship that began on a dating app led him to hand over ¥18.25 million.
Speaking with his back to the camera and his voice altered, the man recounts almost daily contact, including morning and nighttime greetings. After several meetings, he says, Takamatsu asked for money to cover debts associated with living expenses and preparatory school fees.
When he initially refused, messages shown in the report became confrontational. They questioned whether their dates had merely been a way for him to pass the time and accused him of ignoring her when things became inconvenient.
The man says he asked detailed questions about the debts and received answers to each. Although some details made him suspicious, he lent a large initial sum, thinking the money might not matter if the relationship eventually led to marriage.
Further requests followed, he says, for dental treatment and her parents' medical expenses. He describes anger at discovering that the debt and illness stories were false and that the money had been used elsewhere.
Citing investigative sources, the report says one of the phone manuals came from the woman known as Riri-chan. It reports that Takamatsu told investigators she contacted the seller through X and paid for the document. Police suspect she used its methods to obtain more than ¥100 million from five men.
The report describes a planned rearrest, not a completed one. It closes with the interviewed man's wish that the person responsible be held accountable.
