Kandahar Warriors picked Mohammad Nabi, Team Balkh chose Moeen Ali, and a squad-building ceremony became a major draw for the Afghanistan Cricket Board's channel. Its Afghanistan Premier League draft broadcast drew more than 720,000 views in eight hours, far beyond the usual opening for its longer videos.
The selections brought familiar international names into the league's teams: Alex Hales went to Nangarhar Cosmic, Johnson Charles to Accel United Kabul and Wanindu Hasaranga to Team Paktia. Before the picks began, host Ahmed Fidai announced that Rahmanullah Gurbaz would captain Paktia, with Rahmat Shah leading Nangarhar.
But the studio discussion offered another reason to watch beyond finding out who went where. Eoin Morgan, England's World Cup-winning captain, and former India spinner Murali Kartik focused on the young Afghan players who will share dressing rooms with those established names. The squad rules reserve most places for Afghan cricketers.
Morgan described Nabi and Rashid Khan as trailblazers whose example has raised expectations for the next generation. Kartik drew a parallel with the early IPL: playing alongside experienced internationals gives local prospects access to knowledge as well as a bigger stage.
Viewers were already discussing Paktia's batting depth and Gerhard Erasmus as a selection, while others looked ahead to the tournament's start. Fidai announced December 27 as the opening date.
The draft arrived alongside another celebratory upload, showing Afghanistan's Hong Kong Sixes champions receiving a welcome home in Kabul. That Short also opened well above its usual pace, and the channel's daily subscriber growth rose sharply. For this broadcast, though, the practical detail is worth knowing: the opening round of picks begins almost three-quarters of an hour in.

I think Gurbaz made the best T20 squad with Team Paktia. They can bat really deep.
