Just two votes separate the leading candidates in one Patna contest as counting continues in Bihar's Legislative Council elections. In the graduate constituency, another early tally puts the Rashtriya Janata Dal's Dilip Patel only 18 votes ahead of Janata Dal (United) candidate Neeraj Kumar.
India's Hindi news channel Aaj Tak follows those close contests through reports from Patna and Muzaffarpur, covering elections for four teacher and four graduate seats. The Legislative Council is the upper house of Bihar's state legislature; these constituencies use special electoral rolls for eligible teachers and graduates rather than the general electorate.
The broadcast presents successive counting updates, not a settled result. At one point, the studio says the RJD is ahead in both Patna constituencies. Later, reporter Aniket Kumar gives a first-round teacher-seat tally showing the Bharatiya Janata Party's Nawal Kishore Yadav narrowly ahead. RJD candidate Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh separately says he has a lead and questions the arrangements at the counting center.
In the graduate contest, Kumar reports Patel ahead of Neeraj Kumar, with Jan Suraaj's Anuj Singh behind both. Outside the counting center, supporters of different candidates chant and confidently predict victory, even while the margins remain small.
The political interviews are similarly assertive. Nawal Kishore Yadav rejects opponents' allegations and predicts they will lose their deposits. In an interview carried from ANI, Bihar politician Pappu Yadav criticizes candidate selection and alleges that money and muscle power influence the elections. Those are his allegations, not findings established by the broadcast.
From Muzaffarpur, reporter Manibhushan Sharma describes objections raised by counting agents in the Tirhut graduate constituency and intervention by election administrators. The Patna reports return to the same practical distinction: candidates' declarations of confidence are running ahead of a completed count.
