Singapore Airlines flight aborts Perth landing in strong winds | 7NEWS
The runway is close beneath the Singapore Airlines aircraft when it pulls up and climbs away from Perth Airport. Footage carried by 7NEWS Australia shows flight SQ213 abandoning its approach in gusty crosswinds, then banking as it gains height.
According to the report, the aircraft encountered crosswinds reaching 50 km/h. A closer replay shows the banking movement before the plane rises back into the sky above the airfield.
The manoeuvre is called a go-around: the crew discontinues an approach rather than completing the landing. It is a standard aviation safety procedure, allowing another approach instead of continuing one that cannot be completed safely.
Although the broadcast labels the footage a near miss, it reports a safe outcome: the Singapore Airlines flight landed on its second attempt, with no injuries.
