Huntingdon train attack passengers detail fighting for their lives during stabbing rampage
Jonathan Gjoshe called for fellow passengers to run after he was stabbed. Some initially thought he was joking, the court heard, before the danger aboard the London-bound train became clear.
5 News' report on the Huntingdon train attack recounts evidence presented at Cambridge Crown Court, pairing CCTV footage with passengers' descriptions of what happened. The train made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, during the attack in November last year.
Passenger Sachin Balakrishnan described how quickly an ordinary journey changed: "Everything was calm before the screaming... in less than a minute he was with me..." He told the court he ran for his life.
Correspondent Tessa Chapman also recounts David Presland's experience. He was on his hands and knees when he was attacked and thought he was going to die. Other accounts describe a passenger using luggage to fend off the attacker and another whose dog fought back.
The Short drew roughly 112,000 views in its first ten hours, far beyond the channel's usual first-day audience for the format.
Chapman's report closes with the court proceedings: the defendant appeared by video link and denies the attempted murder charges.
