Zack Shutt's reply to Altman's RAM argument: parked cars
The PC creator challenges the idea that idle memory is wasted memory, turning an efficiency argument into a question about ownership.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 514,309 views a day, 6.1 times a normal first day on this channel (84,854).
ChatGPT's CEO Wants Your RAM
Your car spends much of its life parked. Does that make owning it a bad idea? That's Zack Shutt's counter to Sam Altman's remarks about computer memory sitting underused in people's homes.
Shutt's Short, "ChatGPT's CEO Wants Your RAM", drew roughly 327,000 views in ten hours, already well beyond his usual full-day audience for the format. The comments have also passed six times his usual first-day total.
The video includes an interview excerpt in which Altman calls it "quite terrible" to have a limited supply of DRAM sitting in personal computers and being used only a small fraction of the time. Shutt accepts the utilization point, but disputes what should follow from it: equipment doesn't have to be constantly busy to be worth owning.
He contrasts Altman's argument with reports of OpenAI's enormous memory requirements for its Stargate project, citing letters of intent with Samsung and SK Hynix. His central concern is control, particularly the difference between running AI models on your own machine and renting access to computing power elsewhere.
Among the responses, viewers raise a practical objection: people still need memory in their own computers to open a browser and use ChatGPT in the first place.
Shutt also posted a longer companion, "Your PC Is "Terrible" Now", whose description promises purchase orders from his own business experience and a fuller account of rising memory prices. The Short distills that broader argument into a familiar possession: the computer you already paid for.
