GregsGadgets looks past touch to the MacBook Pro's OLED display

Three new uploads pair MacBook hands-on impressions with an iPad mini review that questions the price and refresh rate.

  1. 1:21Greg examines the announced contrast ratio and compares it with earlier MacBook and iPad displays.
  2. 2:42Hands-on demo images convince him that the display's black levels and colors deserve more attention than touch input.
  3. 4:22He questions touchscreen ergonomics while acknowledging that some tasks could benefit from direct input.
  4. 6:09Xcode simulator testing and multi-touch music sliders provide his practical examples of touchscreen uses.
  5. 8:12Other early impressions cover reduced weight, cooling, speakers and wireless networking.
  6. 8:46The glowing Apple logo returns on the laptop lid, a detail Greg singles out with enthusiasm.

"It just felt like I was staring into a void," Greg says of the black levels on the new MacBook Pro display. For all the conversation about touching a Mac's screen, his attention keeps returning to what it looks like.

That distinction shaped GregsGadgets' three-upload week. "NEW MacBook PROLED First Impressions - I can't believe my eyes" was the most-watched new arrival, reaching roughly 140,000 views. These are early hands-on impressions, not a full review, but Greg finds practical touchscreen uses beyond the novelty: testing apps in Xcode's simulator and adjusting several sliders at once in music software such as Logic.

Viewers are drawing their own dividing line between the display and touch input. Several say OLED is the attraction rather than the touchscreen; others point to lower weight or the returning glowing Apple logo. The discussion includes people happy to admire the hardware without replacing their existing MacBook.

Thursday's follow-up, "Touchscreen MacBook Pro - I've never used a Mac like this before...", now carries the channel's strongest daily momentum. Between the two laptop uploads came "The OLED iPad mini is Frustratingly Good", weighing the improved panel against its 60Hz refresh rate and higher price. An older iPhone 18 Pro-versus-iPhone 17 buying guide also continues to draw daily views.

Across the catalog, the week brought roughly 803,000 views, with subscribers unchanged. Daily viewing is currently below GregsGadgets' usual pace. Nearby gadget channels Andrew Ethan Zeng and HotshotTek had larger viewing weeks, while 9to5Google finished close to Greg's total. Here, the useful thread connecting the new reviews is a familiar buying question: a screen can impress you without automatically settling whether to upgrade.

  • I would pay less to not get the touch screen, I feel like they did this because they were asked too, but that oled is why I want it

  • Face ID would've been a much more significant upgrade than a touchscreen. Also, dynamic island is nice, but most of the time it will be hidden behind a huge black bar
  • Wish there was a option for mini leds like burn in anxiety is still there
