History slop gets a historian's attention on WIRED

Lindsay Chervinsky's fact check joins Bollywood questions and a seven-person Abbott Elementary cast interview.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

WIRED drew roughly 8.6 million views over seven days, close to BBC Earth's weekly audience in its documentary-and-journalism neighborhood. Its four new uploads found room for both presidential misinformation and the people who run television's most eventful fictional elementary school.

"Presidential Historian Fact Checks US History Slop" attracted the largest audience among those additions, passing half a million views. American historian Lindsay Chervinsky examines AI-generated history videos and the misinformation they spread. It's another expert-led fact check after the channel's earlier pseudoscience outing, this time with the American past as its subject.

The freshest arrival has the most momentum right now. "'Abbott Elementary' Cast Answer The 50 Most Searched Questions" brings together Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti and William Stanford Davis. That means everyone from Janine and Gregory to principal Ava and custodian Mr. Johnson gets a place in the question-answering lineup.

Arts and life reporter Aparita Bhandari supplies another kind of screen expertise in "Indian Film Expert Answers Bollywood Questions." The questions range from playback singing and different Indian film industries to Tabu, representation and must-watch movies. "The Real Reason Bollywood Movies Have Songs" gives the musical question its own separate upload.

Across the channel, daily viewing is about a quarter of its usual pace, while subscribers remained unchanged over the week. But practical expertise has a durable place beside the celebrity interviews: Jared Pink's earlier "Mechanic Answers Car Questions" has passed a million views and remains one of WIRED's most active uploads, covering everything from buying a lemon to putting the wrong fuel in a car.
