Curry Barker edits horror unplugged in Windows' filmmaking advert

Assistant editor Zach Griffin joins the behind-the-scenes look at making Mama Bear in a single day.

The edit starts on set. In Windows' only new upload this week, Curry Barker's crew shoots horror sequences while assistant editor Zach Griffin gets the footage into editing software. The aim is to assemble Mama Bear as production happens, rather than wait until the cameras stop.

" It feels crazy to have an assembly of the movie as we're shooting." Barker says in "Curry Barker's 'Mama Bear' powered by Windows". The video is a Microsoft promotional film built around an unplugged Surface Laptop Ultra, not the short horror film itself. Its most interesting detail is the overlap between shooting and editing: Griffin explains that getting footage quickly from the set helps him work faster.

The upload has drawn about 7,400 views. That puts a modest-sized filmmaking audience around the week's new release, while an older effects project carries the channel's strongest daily momentum. "3 Generations of VFX Artists Blow Up The Same Building" brings together Fon Davis, Eric Mancha and Ada Vychopnova to explore practical and digital approaches to destruction. It is approaching 900,000 views.

Windows' subscriber count was unchanged over the week, and daily viewing is running at less than a third of its usual level. Nearby in the technology-company group, Android Developers is seeing above-usual daily viewing, while Envato is close to its normal pace. For Windows, the active thread is filmmaking: both the new horror collaboration and the older explosion project put production work in front of the product pitch.
