United won anyway. For the first stretch of The United Stand's Roma watchalong, though, Mark Goldbridge is narrating something closer to a wake, and about 1.2 million people tuned in within roughly six hours to hear it.
This is Goldbridge's live commentary and chat alongside the match, not the match itself. Before kick-off he defends Lisandro Martínez, who he says "is being scapegoated for every bad thing", and questions Michael Carrick's choice to leave Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Youri Tielemans on the bench. He sets the stakes plainly: "I think if we don't win tonight, we're probably going to be out of the Champions League." He also reminds viewers that United sit in the relegation zone with one win in nine, and offers his verdict on the club's mood: "The club has all the ambition of roadkill at the moment."
There are quieter moments too. The stadium falls silent before kick-off for Jesús de Miguel, and Goldbridge mentions he has recorded an interview with Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney, his co-host on the channel's Stick to United show.
Then Roma score down Diogo Dalot's flank and win a penalty soon after, and Goldbridge's patience goes with them: "Two-nil down after 17 minutes, and people were telling us to keep Carrick!" The stream also carries a sponsored segment.
The ending belongs to the channel's own follow-up, titled "CUNHA SAVES CARRICK! Man United 3-2 Roma Goldbridge Match Reaction". After two days of Carrick debate on the channel, as we reported here, the result changes the argument without settling it.
The comments came in quickly, already more than twice the number a long stream here usually collects in a full day. Viewers single out Lacey's passing off the bench, call the second half the best of the season, ask whether the win simply buys Carrick time, and wonder what passed between Cunha and Carrick at the final whistle.

Gotta give it to them they could’ve packed it in but kept trying at least and fans were class
@tylerblev5674See it on YouTubeIt's funny how Man Utd's biggest weapon is to be so bad but so bad that it causes any opponent to completely underestimate them and basically switch off after they score the first goal.
