A safe finish would have been enough, but Kimi Antonelli wanted a place on the podium. The Mercedes driver got both his wish and the world championship in Mexico City, finishing behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to become Formula 1's youngest champion at 20.
TSN's "F1 Extended Highlights: Mexico City Grand Prix" drew about 230,000 views in its first day, far beyond the broadcaster's usual audience for regular uploads. The comments were also much busier than usual, with viewers singling out the sight of Antonelli celebrating alongside Hamilton and Verstappen.
The highlights show how he reached that company. Hamilton takes the early advantage, while Charles Leclerc's opening-lap excursion sparks a track-limits dispute. Two Safety Car periods interrupt the race, and Antonelli makes his decisive move for a podium position by passing Leclerc down the inside.
Verstappen takes the race victory, Hamilton finishes second, and Antonelli crosses the line with a different prize secured. "Kimi, we did it! World champion, we did it!" Toto Wolff tells him over the radio.
The post-race interview brings Antonelli back to the ambition he expressed before the start, only with rather more attached to it. "It's been an incredible season, and to share this podium with Max and Lewis is truly incredible," he says.
