Trevor Noah's presidential advice: "Get a strange voice"
Kennedy orders fast food and Obama's delivery keeps buffering in a stand-up clip built around presidential impressions.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 385,866 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (28,469).
How to Become the US President 🇺🇸
John F. Kennedy's grand speechmaking voice sounds rather different when Trevor Noah imagines it being used to order at McDonald's. The setting changes; the presidential delivery absolutely does not.
That's the premise of "How to Become the US President 🇺🇸", a stand-up Short that drew roughly 390,000 views in its first day, more than thirteen times Noah's usual start for the format. This isn't a campaign explainer. Noah's deliberately unserious qualification for the job is having an unusual voice.
"You want to be president of the United States? Get a strange voice, you're done," he says, before working through a succession of impressions.
After Kennedy comes Bill Clinton, whose delivery Noah casts as an attempt to seduce the audience. George W. Bush gets a distinctive chuckle. For Barack Obama, it's the pauses that supply the joke: "He always did that thing where it sounded like his voice was buffering." Joe Biden's impression trails off before landing on a familiar "Come on, man."
The comments pick out Clinton's voice and compare the Kennedy impression to everything from a Dalek to Talking Heads. Several viewers also mention waiting for a Donald Trump impression. Noah's presidential roll call stops with Biden.
