Chen has a plan. "She's gonna beatbox and I freestyle," he tells Max Amini after the comedian invites him and his girlfriend, Shin, onstage.

The introduction is rather less showbiz: Amini spots Chen sitting separately from Shin, notices his checkered pants and discovers that the couple met in an a cappella club. Asking which of them sings better turns a conversation across the seats into a performance invitation.

By the time Shin starts beatboxing, Amini has joined Chen in dancing across the stage. Then the format changes again: Shin sings a Chinese song unaccompanied, reading the lyrics from her phone. The comedian steps out of the spotlight long enough for his audience member to have her own turn.

"This is what it's like to be comfortable in your own skin and be you," Amini says afterward. His description emphasizes the nerves she overcame to get up there. Viewers, meanwhile, are picking out his dancing and the physical comedy of his body language.

Despite its title, "China's Got Talent | Max Amini | Stand-up Comedy" is crowd work, not a television talent-show appearance. The upload has drawn roughly 945,000 views in six days. Its later conversations return to relationship stories, including Laura and Fernando's unusually direct route from a first date to meeting the family.
