The auctioneer gets a peek at the goods. Everyone else has to decide what they are worth bidding for. Bidder Battle brings the uncertainty of storage-unit auctions to the table, and Tiktok BoardGames' quick explanation has drawn nearly a quarter-million views in its first day, more than twenty times its usual Shorts start.
This is a sponsored tutorial, with the presenter using cards and play money to demonstrate the rules. Players pay a buy-in before bidding for a unit, hoping its contents will help them finish with the most money. Different unit types change what can be revealed or inspected, so the bidding isn't always based on the same amount of information.
Viewers repeatedly make the connection to Storage Wars. Others have practical questions: where does the auction payment go, and what happens in a tie? The comment section is four times as busy as the channel's usual first day, with some viewers already thinking beyond the demonstration to how a round would work at their own table.
The tutorial also introduces an expansion with extra cards, hazards and room for a larger group. But one of the base game's small rules supplies a particularly sharp wrinkle: items you've won can become currency for later bids, and you don't get change.

So, does the auctioneer get the money for selling the unit? Or does the money go into the bank? Feels like whoever is auctioneer first is at a disadvantage because they don't even have a chance at getting anything special from the first unit.
