Whoopi Goldberg Remembers Sir Patrick Stewart | The View
"We went way back, and I adored him," Whoopi Goldberg says of Sir Patrick Stewart in a tribute on The View. Announcing his death, she remembers both his range as an actor and the friendship they shared through Star Trek.
At the center of the short tribute is an invitation. Goldberg introduces footage from Stewart's January 2020 visit to the show, when he asked her to join the second season of Star Trek: Picard.
"I'm here with a formal invitation," Stewart tells her in the archive clip. Goldberg accepts, and the two embrace. Back in the studio, the panel applauds beneath a large photograph of the pair together in Star Trek.
The upload drew about 156,000 views in nine hours, already far beyond the audience a View Short usually reaches in its full first day. Its comment section was also substantially busier than usual, with viewers returning to the invitation and the embrace.
Goldberg closes by remembering Star Trek as one of the great events of her life. Of Stewart, she says: "He is, in a word, irreplaceable, really."
