Cake by random, again: Robert Lucas's dice keep rolling past two million
Alongside the random-design cake, a chicken nugget taste test and Florida's most popular dessert went up on The Sweet Impact.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I made Florida's most popular dessert
What happens when a cake artist lets chance pick the design? Robert Lucas keeps asking, and his viewers keep showing up for the answer. "I made another cake by random" went up thirteen days ago and has passed 2.3 million views. It is still drawing around fifty thousand a day, far more than anything else on the channel.
The word "another" in that title is earned. A month-old companion, "I made another random cake design," is still ticking along too, so the random-cake idea has become something close to a series.
The two new uploads stepped away from the oven's usual surprises. "I made Florida's most popular dessert" arrived on September 25 and has moved at a gentle pace. Four days later came "Which chicken nugget is the best?", a taste test that found an audience faster, with most of its first views arriving in its opening day. A cake specialist ranking nuggets is a nice change of menu.
Lucas came to many viewers through television before the channel. He competed on Netflix's "The Big Nailed It Challenge" and Hulu's "Baker's Dozen," and the random-design videos play with the same kind of pressure those shows put on bakers.
Among the food channels near The Sweet Impact in size, You Suck At Cooking is the one with the big stretch, running well above its usual daily pace.
