Deaf Pittie Saved From Euthanasia Can't Stop Flying In His New Home | The Dodo

Dharma already had a deaf dog at home when she met Satchi while volunteering at a shelter. She bonded with him through sign language, then received a call saying he was scheduled for euthanasia that day. She adopted him.

The change at home was immediate. "The minute we got home, it's like something clicked in him, but he just started, like, flying," Dharma tells host Monica Matute in The Dodo's Ultimate Pet Routine series.

Flying means exuberant leaps across the furniture, fitted between cuddles and naps. Dharma has rearranged the house and added padding to accommodate his favorite activity. Costumes became part of the routine, too, with wings a particular favorite, she says.

That combination of a narrowly avoided loss and a dog enthusiastically launching himself around his home has given viewers plenty to discuss. The Short received roughly nine times the channel's usual first-day comments, even though its views were ordinary for The Dodo.

Viewers keep returning to the superhero possibilities of his cape and the angel-like appearance of his white wings. One suggests his story deserves a book; others focus on how close this lively new chapter came to never happening.

For Dharma, sharing those leaps has another purpose beyond documenting Satchi's daily antics: challenging perceptions of pit bulls. "I would really like to be one tiny voice in changing that stigma," she says.

I really believe that heaven is full of flying pitties. So glad that Satchi is able to do it while he’s still with his momma.
