Who brought the crowd to episode 780 of The Daily Beast Podcast? Going by the comment section, the guest did. David Rothkopf is a familiar face in the show's Monday slot, and the most liked comments say so plainly. Viewers write that they look forward to Mondays because of him, call him the best guest the podcast has and ask Joanna Coles to book him more often.

This time far more people turned up than usual. The episode ran more than twenty-five times past the channel's normal first day, and comments arrived about twice as fast as they usually do.

Rothkopf served in Bill Clinton's Commerce Department and later ran Foreign Policy magazine, and the conversation covers a lot of ground. It opens with what the description calls Trump's claim to an IQ of 1,775. From there it moves through Elon Musk's renewed role in the midterms, Ken Paxton in Texas, Pete Hegseth's plans for the Pentagon and its autonomous weapons, the war in Iran and Laura Loomer's return to Trump's circle. Rothkopf also describes the Republican contest for 2028 as a split between billionaire oligarchs and white Christian nationalists.

The scandal in the title comes near the end. Rothkopf argues that the Epstein case could return and become one of the defining stories of the next election.

The same team was busy elsewhere. Coles and Michael Wolff released a new Inside Trump's Head that compares Trump with the British novelist and politician Jeffrey Archer, and it drew a solid audience of its own. A short clip cut from the Rothkopf conversation, on Russia and Europe, has barely moved. Viewers wanted the full Monday episode, not a piece of it.
