A 44-point drop with immigrant voters, unpacked by Harry Enten and Ana Navarro
Author Mike Madrid joins the conversation on a new NBC/Telemundo poll of Latino voters and on whether redistricting in Texas and Florida could turn on the GOP.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 932,416 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (67,372).
Trump's approval craters w/immigrants & Latinos: Enten & experts unpack
"Trump's approval craters w/immigrants & Latinos: Enten & experts unpack" joins two conversations in one CNN video. Its subject is a group that helped return Donald Trump to the White House in 2024. Naturalized immigrant and Latino voters moved his way in that election, the description says. Since then, chief data analyst Harry Enten finds, the president's net approval among immigrant voters has fallen 44 points in less than two years. Enten calls it a move away from Trump by a group he had done historically well with for a Republican.
Seven hours after it went up, the video had passed 375,000 views, far beyond what a new CNN upload usually gathers in a full day. Enten's segments have been behind several of the channel's stronger days lately, from Ken Paxton's polling to the idea of a blue Texas, as we reported here. This time he opens with a question of cause: how much of the drop comes down to immigration policy itself?
The second half belongs to Mike Madrid, author of "The Latino Century," and CNN senior political commentator Ana Navarro, who came to the United States from Nicaragua as a child. They work through an NBC/Telemundo poll released Sunday that found barely a quarter of Latino voters approve of the president, with the sharpest souring on the economy. Trump called the poll "fake news," the description notes. The chapters go on to a Latina Republican congresswoman pushing back against him (the description does not name her) and to whether the redistricting strategy in Texas and Florida could backfire on Republicans.
The comments came in fast and keep returning to the 2024 vote itself and to the deportation promises of that campaign.
The whole channel is drawing about twice its usual daily views, and its Texas thread runs on: one of the newest uploads is Ed Lavandera's report on out-of-state money pouring into Paxton's Senate race.
