Speed needs a moment. Wearing a red Portugal jersey, he watches Cristiano Ronaldo's farewell address to the national team, then sits with his head in his hands as the screen fades to black.
The reaction clip, posted by Speedy Boykins, reached nearly 190,000 views in eight hours, far ahead of the channel's usual start. Its comments were already several times busier than a typical full first day.
But the distinction Speed keeps returning to matters: this is a farewell to international football, not to playing altogether. "It's not over with, he is still playing," he tells his live chat. He also insists Ronaldo will reach his career goals target, a promise from an admirer rather than an announcement from the player.
Before that clarification comes a more personal thank-you. Speed calls Ronaldo his idol and focuses on the work behind the career: the early mornings, late nights and discipline involved in representing his country. "Thank you for inspiring everybody, cuz on God, wallahi, you inspired me," he says.
The soundtrack supplies an unexpected second subject for viewers. A music player shows "Naruto Shippuden - Samidare" during the latter part of the clip, and several comments single out the timing of the anime music beneath Speed's reaction. Others remember Ronaldo as the player who brought them to football or ask for a farewell match.
