Meetings with government leaders have prompted speculation about Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş's political future, but journalist İsmail Küçükkaya says he does not expect a move to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Justice and Development Party, known as the AKP.
Turkey's SÖZCÜ Televizyonu presents the discussion in an excerpt from its morning program, Günaydın Türkiyem. The report links the speculation to Yavaş's contacts with Erdoğan and his subsequent meeting with Murat Kurum, the environment, urbanization and climate change minister. It does not announce a party switch.
Yavaş first won Ankara's mayoralty in 2019 as the candidate of an opposition alliance formed by the Republican People's Party and the Good Party. That background explains the political significance attached to his meetings with the government.
In the news segment, Yavaş emphasizes residents' livelihoods and Ankara's roads, water and other municipal needs. He says he is watching developments and does not want these political questions discussed so much. Küçükkaya's assessment is firmer: he considers Yavaş joining the AKP out of the question.
The broadcast then changes subjects. Journalist Saygı Öztürk recounts the material difficulties facing the national movement on its journey from Sivas to Ankara. In his account, Mazhar Müfit Kansu had to seek borrowed money under his own signature to finance the trip.
That historical section accompanies Turkey's October 29 Republic Day commemorations. Back in the studio, Küçükkaya acknowledges viewers' holiday messages before reading a newspaper article about Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the republic's reforms. Despite the upload's party-switch question, a substantial part of the excerpt concerns the republic's beginnings rather than Yavaş's next political step.
