Bad Taste puts poker faces on Sorted Food's menu

Matt Adlard, Chetna Makan, Juliet Sear and Philip Khoury join a new gameshow built around secretly sabotaged dishes.

Being a good cook is only part of the qualification for Sorted Food's new gameshow. In Bad Taste, guests must disguise their reactions to sabotaged dishes, deceive their fellow diners and get through suspicion-filled vote-offs. Knowing something tastes wrong isn't much use if your face announces it to the table.

The first episode, "One of These Dishes Is SABOTAGED... Can Pro Cooks Spot It?", brings together Matt Adlard, Chetna Makan, Juliet Sear and Philip Khoury. Produced by Sorted Studios and commissioned by Fox Creator Studios, it gives the group's familiar food games a more elaborate framework, with successive courses and eliminations. It drew roughly 387,000 views and has the second-strongest daily momentum on the channel.

Across seven uploads, though, the biggest new audience went to "Worthwhile or Rip-Off? Chef Reviews High-End Ingredients". Chef Ben and Barry assess ant-infused gin, snow-aged sake, dry-aged beef chocolate and clear soy sauce. More than half a million views later, the comments have their own continuity investigation underway: Barry's changing hair color, paired with the same shirt, gets repeated attention. There's also a request to bring back the format's fake ingredient.

Mike and Jamie's meat-identification test came close to that total. The freshest burst of viewing belongs to "Chef Brutally Judges Easy Dinners | Sorted Food", where three home cooks try to deliver maximum flavor with minimum effort.

Subscribers stayed unchanged, while daily views are running below their usual level. Biggroove and The Plant Slant had much larger viewing weeks among nearby food channels; Sorted Food nevertheless added more weekly views than kennysong, emmymade or James Hoffmann. Its busiest upload right now has a distinctly practical concern: dinner when you absolutely cannot be bothered.

  • Barry's hair continually changing colour at the start was unexpected. 😂
  • We need the one FAKE Ingredient back! It was so fun.
  • Ok the hair colour change halfway through is at least acknowledged. Nice job on the clothing continuity though. 😄

  • I love how barry went through the effort of wearing the same shirt 😂

  • Maybe one note for the soy sauce as the boys kept saying how sweet the clear one is - Kumamoto (where the brewery is) is on the island of Kyushu, where people tend to use lighter and sweeter soy sauce than the rest of Japan anyway. So the sweetness may not be entirely because of whatever the clarifying process is, but partly due to the preferences of the region
