Is Your Wii U A Ticking Time Bomb?
Holding a Wii U GamePad, DJ Slope introduces an unsettling idea for anyone with a console packed away: could leaving it unplugged destroy its memory? His answer is that the problem lies elsewhere, in the chips Nintendo put inside.
"Is Your Wii U A Ticking Time Bomb?" has drawn around 27,000 views before its first full day. The comments have already far exceeded the usual first-day response to a Slope's Game Room Short, with owners discussing stored consoles, working launch models and ways to identify their memory chips.
Daniel Ibbertson, known as DJ Slope, builds the explanation around error code 160-0103. He recalls players encountering it when returning to their consoles before the Wii U eShop closed, then turns to an investigation highlighted by TechPowerUp and the homebrew community.
His central distinction is between time spent unplugged and a manufacturing problem. Nintendo used memory from Samsung, Toshiba and Hynix; Slope identifies flawed Hynix chips, particularly in early Deluxe models, as the culprit rather than simple neglect. That makes this less a warning about forgetting an old console than an account of different components hiding inside apparently identical machines.
For a channel devoted to preserving gaming history, it is a practical wrinkle in the nostalgia. Slope closes with a sarcastic answer to where players might find former Wii U exclusives: footage of their Switch ports.

Got mine second hand, it's been sitting in a box unused for nearly a decade, but maybe it's time to see what mess I'm in for.
@Chalky.See it on YouTubeIf you have a modded Wii U, you can look up which chip you have with WiiUident. I fortunately have one with a Samsung chip, which honestly was a big relief to find out.
@Irgendjemand_211See it on YouTubeThe Wii U is worth it for modding and exclusives that haven't been ported elsewhere
