DJ Slope revisits the Xbox 360's disastrous cooling accessory
His Nyko Intercooler retrospective brings melted connectors, revised hardware and conflicting owners' memories back into view.
Why this story? The video is running at 33,652 views a day, 13 times its usual pace (2,651).
The Xbox 360 Accessory That MELTED Consoles!
Extra fans brought extra trouble. The Nyko Intercooler promised cooling for anxious Xbox 360 owners, but DJ Slope's retrospective shows archival footage of smoking units and melted power connectors instead.
The Short has picked up about 34,000 views in a day, nearly thirteen times its usual daily pace. Published four days ago, it is accelerating alongside a broader lift for Slope's Game Room, where daily views have more than quadrupled their usual level.
Daniel Ibbertson, better known as DJ Slope, starts with the console owner's dreaded warning: the Red Ring of Death. The Intercooler clipped onto the machine as a preventative cooling accessory, but its original design took power through the console's own power connection rather than using a separate supply.
Slope identifies that arrangement as the problem behind damaged connectors. He also describes the warranty consequences of using the accessory, before explaining that Nyko later revised it with dedicated power supplies. The distinction matters: this is a story about a particular hardware design, not simply the idea of adding a fan.
Owners in the comments bring different memories. Some recall having the original accessory without trouble; another specifically credits a revised version with helping a console. Others remember fans that connected by USB instead. Beneath the melted-plastic footage is a small history of the different fixes people tried to keep their Xbox running.
