Simon Servida turns FL Studio's grid into a finger-swiping instrument
His Novation-sponsored pad demonstration moves from drum programming and soul chops to a custom arpeggiator layout.

They Made A Pad For FL STUDIO?!?
Things we can learn from the video
Press to jump
- 0:19Scale mode lets Simon play a melody on the pads using Serum.
- 1:06The grid programs hi-hats, with graph-editor adjustments for swing and velocity.
- 3:06Fruity Slicer chops a soul vocal sample into sections Simon plays from the pads.
- 5:51Novation Components supplies custom layouts that extend the controller's role in his workflow.
- 6:24An arpeggiator layout turns finger swipes across the grid into rising and falling synth patterns.
The swipe is the attraction. Simon Servida starts his new hardware demonstration making beats, then finds himself sliding his fingers across a grid of pads, sending a synth line up and down over a drum loop.
"They Made A Pad For FL STUDIO?!?" was Servida Music's only upload this week, reaching about 49,000 views. The video is sponsored by Novation. Simon introduces its FL Pad as "the channel rack in physical form," then puts that idea to work: a melody in scale mode, programmed hi-hats, and adjustments to swing and velocity. A second beat swaps in chopped soul vocals played through Fruity Slicer.
The playful detour comes with a custom layout made through Novation Components. Simon arranges an arpeggiator across the pads so a finger swipe becomes a musical gesture. "This feels so stupid, but why is this so fun?" he asks. Viewers make the connection to the Launchpad-cover era, compare the device to a game controller and pick out his tendency to get happily lost in the process.
Across the channel, the month-old "WHAT ARE THEY FEEDING THESE IG PRODUCERS?!?" is drawing the most daily views, followed by "I Cant Stop Making 2000s Beats!" and the new pad demonstration. Subscribers were unchanged over the week, while today's viewing is well below the channel's usual daily level.
Among nearby producer channels, Servida Music sits around the middle for weekly views. Busy Works Beats and ANDREW HUANG had larger weekly audiences, while In The Mix had a smaller one. Simon's contribution to that production-minded company this week is unusually tactile: less clicking a sequence into place, more finding out what happens when you drag a hand across it.
