Teddy bears for a hospital ward: Campbell's 2016 story returns to The Feed
The twelve-year-old who sews for sick children came back as a Short and a full film, while a 2015 documentary on ice drew more daily viewers than either.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The 12-year-old boy sewing hope for sick children
SBS The Feed reached into its own archive for its two uploads. Both tell the story of Campbell, a twelve-year-old who spends his spare time sewing teddy bears for children at his local hospital. It first aired in 2016. The Short came first, on October 1, and the longer version followed a day later. It has two chapters: why he makes the bears, and what it is like to have a dad with cancer. The description sums up his outlook in one line, about a boy who looks at sadness and tries to turn it the other way up.
Both films have stayed small, in the low thousands. The video drawing the most daily viewers right now is another archive piece, "Ice towns: Australia's crystal meth epidemic," a documentary filmed in 2015 about the drug's toll on Australian communities. It went back up 26 days ago and has passed 23,000 views.
Overall it was a slow stretch. The channel ran at roughly half its usual daily pace, and subscribers held at 405,000. Several of the documentary channels around it were also below their normal level, The Atlantic among them. Its sister channel SBS Dateline was the exception, running well above its usual pace.
