The Minecraft creator added roughly 24,000 subscribers in a day, a sharp departure from the channel's usual small gains.

Why this story? The channel is adding 23,999 subscribers a day, 586 times a normal day (41).

my brother died

rekrap1's subscriber count rose sharply alongside an upload with a stark title: "my brother died," posted October 29. The video has drawn more than a million views. Its title alone is not enough to describe what happened, so it should not be read as a fuller account.

The jump brings a different moment for a channel whose recent uploads have mixed Minecraft challenges with personal titles. Earlier this month, "1 year post breakup" was carrying a week without new uploads, as we reported here. Since then, rekrap1 has posted "100 Hardcore - Attempt 11," describing the challenge as something he was especially excited and passionate about.

The subscriber increase is far outside the channel's usual pace of a few dozen a day. It coincides with the new upload, though that does not establish what prompted people to subscribe.
