Tyla, SkinnyTok and a body-shaming backlash in Refashioned Hippie's biggest short

The response to comments calling the singer fat passed 1.4 million views, in a fifteen-upload week that also brought Elvira and some very costly cat trees.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Among the fashion and shopping channels close to her size, Refashioned Hippie added more views than anyone else, about 23 million, while JD Sports was the next busiest at under four million. Lydia Elise Millen and Jessica Braun both ran warmer than usual. Most of the rest of the group had a calmer stretch.

The short that carried the most weight was a serious one. Tagged with the VMAs and Tyla, it takes aim at the SkinnyTok and "thinspiration" crowd who decided the South African singer, the voice behind "Water," had become too heavy. It passed 1.4 million views in five days, and the comments line up behind her. Viewers compare SkinnyTok to the tabloids of the 1990s, remember when Britney Spears was called fat, and point out how the standard keeps swinging between too thin and too big. A few also ask her to keep going with her "Fixing My Millennial Brain" series.

The rest of the fifteen uploads went back to the channel's lighter side. Elvira got her own Halloween fashion moment through Unique Vintage, a sustainability short promised "a terrible no good truth," and shop signs that missed badly took their turn.

The newest short in the Stupid Rich People Fashion series, about the most expensive cat trees in the world, is the one gaining views fastest right now, a day after it went up. It joined a scary toilet design that is also moving quickly. The channel's daily views sat a little below her usual pace, but she still added around 13,000 subscribers over the week.
