Real Civil Engineer's ski resort has a strict closing time

Ski Lines turns lifts, lodges and the last run home into a planning puzzle, with real snowboarding footage along the way.

  1. 0:00Matt introduces Ski Lines with clips of his own snowboarding.
  2. 1:03He places lifts and draws ski runs using elevation contours and slope difficulty.
  3. 3:24Closing time adds a deadline: every skier must leave the mountain before the resort shuts.
  4. 14:15A promotional interlude features a Civil Draft: Architectural Reality booster-pack opening.
  5. 19:37The session moves from indoor Ski Dubai to the Grand Tourmalet mountain map.

Getting skiers up the mountain is only half the problem. In Real Civil Engineer's most watched new upload, everyone must be back off the slopes by closing time, or the resort's day ends in failure.

"I cannot stop playing this game!!" introduces Ski Lines: Trail Map, a network-building game that swaps commuter routes for ski lifts and downhill runs. Matt starts at Ski Dubai, drawing routes around elevation contours and choosing upgrades as the resort gets busier. Restaurants and viewpoints complicate the journeys. A lift can deliver people uphill perfectly well while leaving an awkward queue for the trip home.

There is a personal connection here, too: Matt opens with footage of himself snowboarding, and remarks that he enjoys the last run when the slopes are empty. Viewers pick up on the practical problem of sending beginners too far up the mountain, while others joke about customers visiting a ski resort chiefly for its restaurant. The video also includes a promotional card-pack opening.

At roughly 1.8 million views, the ski outing has the week's largest new audience by a considerable margin. Seven uploads offered plenty of alternatives: untangling cables in Knode, designing grid-free roads in Traffic Architect, and building an extravagantly wide highway in Cities: Skylines II.

The channel added around 10,000 subscribers over the week, while daily views are running above their usual level. Its weekly viewing total is the largest among the nearby strategy and simulation channels, with ambiguousamphibian also experiencing a pronounced lift in daily viewing.

The freshest momentum belongs to "Drilling a BASEMENT under my tower city!", another instalment of the Timberborn beaver-tower project. Ski Lines remains active behind it, alongside the money-making city experiments in Combolands.

What viewers say

  • They should make a version where you build them between Cities and call it Cities: Ski lines
  • The idea of people going to a ski resort just to go to the cafe or restaurant there is hilarious to me. "I know a good place to eat, get your snowboarding gear."
  • 29:07 the key is not sending your beginners to the top of the mountain where it will take them ages to get down

  • 27:38 as a Patroller I shuddered at the thought of removing the easy ways down. Love your snowboard montages!
  • Skied in that Dubai mall, its funny imagining them adding multiple lifts and runs and shopping on the slope not much bigger than a football pitch.
