Queens of the Stone Age cast Matt Berry as a retro crooner

Liam Lynch directs the "Mono" teaser, whose vintage television staging has viewers reaching for sitcom references and Demis Roussos comparisons.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 140,870 views a day, 6.6 times a normal first day on this channel (21,196).

Gold-paneled walls, a vintage microphone and an embroidered black caftan: Matt Berry gets a television variety-show setting for his appearance in Queens of the Stone Age's "Mono" teaser. The performance is dramatic, the picture deliberately worn like an old broadcast, and the soaring choral backing gets cut short just as it builds.

"Queens of the Stone Age - Mono (Teaser)" drew roughly 57,000 views in seven hours, a much faster start than the band's usual Short. The comment section had already attracted more than five times the channel's usual full-day total for that format.

Berry is the center of that conversation. Viewers invoke The IT Crowd, Toast of London and his vampire Laszlo from What We Do in the Shadows. Others compare the caftan-clad performance to Greek singer Demis Roussos, or point out that Berry's musical career extends well beyond his television characters.

Directed by Liam Lynch, the clip ends with a glowing red Q pierced by a burning match. There is no spoken explanation, just the performance and that final emblem.

The teaser also lands at a busy moment for the band's music. Their channel announces October 30 as the date for a "Perfecth" album, and "Queens of the Stone Age - It's Only Love (Lyric Video)" has joined the uploads. After the handwritten presentation of "Run Away From the Mob," this preview puts a very different face on the rollout.
