Goth makeovers at the mall: Queens of the Stone Age's 'Where The Goth Girls At?'

Josh Homme traces the song to the goth girls behind the makeup counter at JCPenney, and the album it belongs to, Perfecth, is due October 30.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Josh Homme has given the song its origin story himself. In the video's description he remembers growing up watching the goth girls who worked the counter at JCPenney, giving goth makeovers to old ladies, and deciding that wherever they were was where he wanted to be. "Where The Goth Girls At?" is the result, and its official video, directed by Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, is twelve days old with more than a million and a half views. It is still the channel's busiest video by a wide margin. Among the cast is Steve Agee, the comedian many will know from The Sarah Silverman Program and as Economos in Peacemaker.

The band added only two small uploads this week, a short cut of the song and a teaser simply titled "Perfecth. Watch QOTSA TV for more." The teaser's comment section is fixed on one gag: someone takes a spray to the face and calmly puts his glasses back on. Several viewers also spot a nod to A Clockwork Orange in the look.

QOTSA TV, the channel's around-the-clock stream, is drawing a steady crowd of its own, and the "Insignificant Other" lyric video from late August keeps going too. Daily views have eased from their usual level, but the week still added about four million, third among the nearby rock channels, behind big weeks for Falling In Reverse and The All-American Rejects. The about text has already set the date for what comes next: the Perfecth album, October 30.
