Johnny Depp looks beyond Scrooge's greed in Paramount's Ebenezer featurette

Ti West's ghost-story reimagining opens November 13, with Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint and Daisy Ridley among the cast.

Jacob Marley's warning about three visiting spirits gets a practical response from Scrooge: "Surely there is room for negotiation." Even supernatural intervention apparently has terms worth discussing.

That exchange gives Paramount Pictures' biggest new upload of the week a useful little taste of its central performance. In "Ebenezer | Johnny Depp on Ebenezer Featurette (2026 Movie)", Depp explains that he wanted something beyond the familiar miserable, greedy old man. Clips of festive gatherings, ghostly encounters and lost love accompany his search for the person beneath the unpleasantness.

This is a promotional behind-the-scenes featurette, mixing Depp's account of the role with scenes from Ti West's film. It has reached roughly 178,000 views. Viewers are connecting Scrooge with Depp's gallery of distinctive characters, including Edward Scissorhands and Jack Sparrow; others bring up Alastair Sim's 1951 interpretation as their point of reference.

Paramount's six uploads also made room for Addams Family dinner, Camp Crystal Lake and Halloween clips. But Ebenezer occupies the channel's most active recent slots: its second trailer, now past 15 million views, is drawing slightly more daily viewing than the new featurette. The Street Fighter bloopers remain active too, extending the life of the studio's earlier cast-focused run.

Across the channel, daily views are running at a little over half their usual level, while subscribers were unchanged over the week. Among nearby studio channels, Warner Bros. Entertainment had a stronger-than-usual daily audience and Disney Animation was close to its customary level. Paramount's own week belonged chiefly to Scrooge, with Depp finding humor even as the ghosts close in.

  • I only watch the Alistair Sim version, but for Johnny, I'll watch this. Just from this video, I love his interpretation, and it takes nothing away from the 1951 version.

  • Johnny Depp found a way to give a unique complexity to the Ebenezer Scrooge character and while he is indeed a miserable, Christmas-hating grouch, he is not a misanthrope like his novel counterpart.
