Avi Yemini arrives an hour early, with time to ask people why they have come. Outside Flinders Street Station, his Melbourne livestream begins with interviews rather than the anticipated confrontation between rally participants and counter-demonstrators.
Rukshan shares the microphone as Yemini speaks to a Saudi international student critical of mass immigration, Annie in a One Nation shirt, and a man who travelled from near Echuca for his first protest. The conversations give the broadcast its particular texture: national political arguments told through individual reasons for showing up. Victoria's state election is scheduled for 28 November.
The November 1 stream was the most-watched of Yemini's 15 uploads this week, reaching about 215,000 views, almost all of them in its opening day. It is on-the-ground Rebel News coverage, with Yemini openly supportive of the rally's patriotic framing.
The busiest uploads now are newer ones. "Aussie Patriots Have Had ENOUGH…" has the strongest daily viewing, followed by "Same Family. Same Country. DIFFERENT Rules 🤯🇦🇺" and "If Only Someone Saw This Coming 🤔😡". The longer livestream supplied the week's largest new audience; those shorter, newer posts are carrying more of the immediate momentum.
Subscribers edged upwards, although the weekly gain was modest compared with the preceding month's growth. Daily views are currently around half their usual level. Among nearby political-commentary channels, Pondering Politics and RattlesnakeTV had substantially larger weekly viewing totals, while Yemini's total was close to BlackBeltBarrister's.
Rukshan Fernando is a Sri Lankan-Australian videographer and wedding photographer known for favourable coverage of Australia's anti-vaccine and anti-lockdown movement.
