A driver who heard an unusual noise after changing his car's tires continued toward home before a wheel came off and struck a parked vehicle in Asahikawa, on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.

Japan's Nippon Television News reports that the man, in his 70s, had changed from summer to winter tires himself that morning. The accident happened on a city road shortly before 4 p.m. on October 26. No one was injured, according to the report.

The video opens with a police-supplied photograph of the damaged car, with a front wheel missing. Computer-generated reconstructions then show the sequence described in the reporting: the tire change, the driver noticing noise from the front left wheel, and the detached wheel hitting the parked car. These are illustrations of the incident, not footage of the collision.

Police suspect the wheel nuts were insufficiently tightened and are investigating the circumstances, the broadcaster says.
