Customers whose information was published after the GMO Internet Group cyberattack will receive additional payments based on what was exposed, Japan's Nippon Television News (日テレNEWS) reports.
Beyond a flat ¥5,000 payment, GMO announced an additional ¥10,000 for names and contact details, ¥15,000 for financial or authentication information, and ¥25,000 for highly private information. The announcement distinguishes between categories of exposed material rather than offering every affected customer the same additional amount.
The October 27 report also details GMO's offer of a total $1 million reward for information leading to the identification of people involved in the attack. The company is seeking identities and locations, as well as information about servers and accounts used. A dedicated reporting channel was due to begin accepting information the following day.
GMO said it confirmed that someone believed to be an attacker had published customer and company information after announcing plans to do so that noon. It warned people not to visit or circulate the material, saying information about visitors to the site might also have been collected.
In an October 28 follow-up, the broadcaster reports that GMO worked with relevant service providers and authorities, and confirmed that the site's domain had been suspended at about 4 a.m., leaving the website inaccessible.
