Nate Herk's coffee-shop website gets better, then gets cluttered
Repeated Claude Code prompts produce animations, ordering tools and eventually interactive pumpkin carving.

- 0:00Herk repeatedly asks Claude Code to improve a basic coffee-shop website, comparing Sonnet and Opus.
- 2:00Sonnet adds animations and images, then develops ordering tools before accumulating increasingly small features.
- 7:36Opus makes faster initial changes but expands into increasingly complex code and features.
- 10:45The final Opus site includes pumpkin carving and caffeine tracking, with excessive additions breaking functionality.
- 12:03Neither model searched the web for outside design inspiration during the experiment.
- 13:12Herk concludes that the model sets the ceiling while the prompt sets the direction.
How much improvement can one vague instruction buy? Nate Herk gives Claude Code an ugly coffee-shop website and repeatedly asks it to "make it better." Useful redesigns arrive, but so do features that leave a simple café site looking rather overburdened.
"I Told Claude to "Make it better" 100 Times (It Went Too Far)" was the most watched of his fourteen uploads, reaching roughly 467,000 views. Herk runs the experiment separately with Sonnet and Opus. Sonnet progresses through animations, images and dynamic ordering forms before accumulating smaller additions whose value becomes harder to see. Opus goes further: seat reservations, caffeine tracking and interactive pumpkin carving join a sprawling site that eventually starts breaking.
The revealing detail isn't just the clutter. Neither model searches the web for design inspiration, despite having that option. Herk's conclusion is compact: "The model sets the ceiling and the prompt sets the direction." Viewers pick up that thread, questioning what "better" means without a defined goal and asking to see the mobile version tested.
Claude also fills the teaching side of the week. "Every Claude 2.0 Concept Explained for Non-Coders" walks through models, memory, skills and autonomous work in plain English. It is the channel's next-busiest upload right now, while "I Turned Codex Into My AI Operating System" brings OpenAI's coding tool into the mix.
The channel added about 20,000 subscribers over the week, and daily views are modestly above their usual level. Nearby tech channels Low Level and Matt Wolfe drew larger weekly view gains, while Herk added more subscribers than either. For his own audience, the coffee-shop experiment supplies the week's clearest lesson: adding more is not necessarily improving.

@BrassAndBezelSee it on YouTube'Better' needs a definition before round one, or each pass can add features and clutter while still feeling like progress. I would pause early, test the site with real users, and continue only the changes that measurably help.
@yfffffdqSee it on YouTubeMore of these experiments, Nate!!! This was beyond fascinating, and I appreciated the post-script findings (e.g. "'Innovating' without vision equals adding).

"What do you expect me to do, Dad?"
"Figure it out son."@InsideOfMyOwnMindSee it on YouTubeI think a cool idea for a coffee shop website would be to add a voice chat BOT that takes your order same as a Starbucks drive thru or a barista inside the store. People are used to ordering that specialty drinks that way and finding all of the customizations on a website is often time consuming and annoying. It’s a lot easier if you can just say what you want.
@ericandiSee it on YouTubeBrilliant idea! Haiku on max next please.
@YourDownstairsNeighbourSee it on YouTubeYou didn't test the mobile website.
@oneeSee it on YouTube"Seriously, this is the best you can do?" is similar to "make it better" loops that i have done before too, but actually works better somehow lol.. it like makes it question it's own choices, rethinks things, etc.
@a__random__personSee it on YouTubeIt would be interesting to see two different shops using same models and maybe slightly varying prompts produced websites how different.
