Michael McIntyre finds November disbelief right on schedule
His only new upload takes in clock-change jet lag, turkey sandwiches and the peculiar urge to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
I can't believe it's November! 🤣🗓️ #standupcomedy #michaelmcintyre #comedy #november
Michael McIntyre has a question for everyone startled by the calendar: "Why do we live every year the same way and can't come to terms with the effects it has?"
Posted on November's first day, his only upload of the week has reached roughly 284,000 views. He starts with our annual disbelief that November has arrived, then moves to the clocks going back: a tiny time change treated like a long-haul flight, followed by astonishment at how dark it is outside.
The comments almost perform the routine back to him. Viewers recall sending November-disbelief emails, saying the same thing to a neighbour and finding themselves at the window remarking on the early darkness. Several had apparently delivered his opening premise before seeing the clip.
McIntyre carries the calendar forward into December's obligation to feel Christmassy, then the days between Christmas and New Year, when turkey sandwiches replace normal meals and nobody knows the date. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang becomes another seasonal peculiarity: suddenly essential viewing, rather less tempting in June.
The November clip is currently the channel's busiest video, with July's mattress routine and the earlier clock-change clip also drawing views. Overall daily viewing is about a third above McIntyre's usual level, while the channel added 4,000 subscribers over the week. Among nearby stand-up channels, ISMO and Finlay Christie are enjoying much larger-than-usual viewing days; Jim Gaffigan's is quieter than normal. For McIntyre, the fresh material on the channel has returned to a familiar subject: ordinary habits we repeat without quite recognising them.
