Six South Korean nationals aboard the high-speed trains involved in Spain's deadly collision suffered minor injuries, South Korea's Foreign Ministry said, adding that it was checking for any further casualties among its citizens.
South Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) includes that update in its report on the October 28 crash in Toledo province, south of Madrid. According to the report, a moving high-speed train struck a stationary train from behind on the route between Madrid and Seville.
Aerial and ground footage shows mangled carriages lying off the tracks on an embankment, with debris scattered around them. Passenger-recorded footage shows broken windows and extensive damage beneath the carriage. At stations, information boards display cancellations while travelers wait in terminals.
This early broadcast reported at least 46 deaths, citing local media. The broadcaster's later coverage raised the toll to at least 68, with about a hundred people injured, including 15 in critical condition.
The report also notes that the collision came nine months after another fatal train crash in Spain. It does not establish what caused this collision.
