Trump's 'final four weeks' email gives Simon Marks a fright on James O'Brien's show
It turned out to be a fundraising appeal, and LBC's Washington voice used it to walk through a midterm campaign of aspirin, expletives and 'suck it up'.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 499,559 views a day, 12 times a normal first day on this channel (41,042).
Is Trump accidentally helping the Democrats?
Around 40,000 views is a good first day for an LBC clip. Simon Marks's latest segment with James O'Brien had passed 380,000 within 14 hours, on its way to roughly half a million.
It opens with a scare, by the description's account. Marks found an email in his inbox from Donald Trump himself, warning that these might be his final four weeks in the Oval Office. It was a fundraising appeal. From there he turns to how hard the Republicans are pushing to keep the House and the Senate in the midterms, with polls, the description says, suggesting both are slipping away. The chapters do the rest: Trump telling Ohio voters worried about rising prices to "suck it up", the president explaining how much aspirin he takes, and a get-out-the-vote plea heavy with expletives.
The comments came in about four times faster than on a usual first day here. Much of the talk fixes on the email's "final four weeks" line, which many readers seized on at face value, and on the aspirin chapter.
Marks, a British journalist based in Washington who runs the news agency Feature Story News, had a second clip out the same Monday. With O'Brien, he took on Tucker Carlson's conversation with Jacob Rees-Mogg, in which Rees-Mogg accused the former Fox News host of verging on defending Hitler after Carlson suggested Britain had made a mistake joining the Second World War. Marks calls Carlson "extraordinarily ignorant". That clip ran almost level with the Trump one.
The same Monday, Andrew Marr had Humza Yousaf in the studio, and those interviews stayed in the tens of thousands. The transatlantic correspondent accounted for the channel's two fastest uploads of the day.
