'Prison Karma!': a cellblock payback, told with sound effects, for Matthew Cox

Commenters are sure the storyteller is from Baltimore, and more than one hears Snoop from The Wire in his voice.

Why this story? The video is running at 204,186 views a day, 7.6 times its usual pace (26,969).

Prison Karma!Prison Karma!

What does karma look like on a prison tier? In "Prison Karma!", a guest of Matthew Cox's tells it as viewers retell it: a fellow inmate who threw waste at people, officers who did nothing about it, and the payback the guest says he handed out himself. He tells it with his mouth as much as his words. The sound effects, one of them compared to a squeezed shampoo bottle, are the part the comment section keeps replaying.

The clip went up on Friday and had a modest first day, around 25,000 views. Four days later it is drawing about 200,000 a day, many times its usual pace, while newer uploads such as "The OG Scam!" and "Standing Up For Yourself In Prison" gather their own crowds beside it.

The other running topic is the speaker himself. Many commenters are certain, from the accent alone, that he is from Baltimore, and several hear Snoop from The Wire, David Simon's series set in that city. A few doubt the ending went quite the way he tells it.

The story fits the channel. Cox, a former con man who served 13 years in federal prison for bank fraud, built it around letting people who did time tell their own tales, and his about text says he prefers the clever and the bizarre to the murderous. A neighbor's comeuppance, acted out with noises, is squarely in that line.
