Gbay99's race to level 60 before WoW Forever lifts his channel tenfold

His newest Classic WoW episode, two days old, is nearly level with his BlizzCon trip from a week earlier.

Why this story? The whole channel is running at 332,828 views a day, 11 times a normal day (31,223).

Gbay99 has set himself a deadline. The description of his newest episode, "The hardest stretch of leveling in Classic WoW...", states the problem plainly: he needs to reach level 60 before WoW Forever arrives, and the old game's lore keeps getting in the way.

The channel is having a day about ten times its usual size, roughly a third of a million views. Posted on September 30, the new episode already has nearly as many views as "Blizzard actually did it... (and I was there)", the account of his first BlizzCon from a week earlier, which carries WoW Forever in its tags.

The episodes follow one warrior's climb from level 1 to 60. In August came "I'm beginning to understand Classic WoW..." and then "I've become a real WoW player.", billed as the end of one chapter and the start of the next. It remains the most watched of his recent uploads. Next was "The most important milestone in Classic WoW.", which he describes simply as the fishing episode. Its tags point to level 40 and a mount, the level at which the original game first let players ride.

The new episode's tags move into the next stretch, with dungeons, professions and Uldaman, the titan-built ruin in the Badlands. Where the run is at its slowest, his audience is at its biggest.

The line on his channel page could describe the whole series: learning to have fun with video games again.
