Military service is part of Angela Diffley's explanation for Benjamin Netanyahu's electoral setback. In FRANCE 24 English's analysis, she points to dissatisfaction over ultra-Orthodox conscription exemptions and subsidies, alongside public blame over October 7.

Her starting point is the projected loss of roughly a quarter of Netanyahu's coalition seats compared with the 2022 election. These are still projections, not a final parliamentary result, but they show a substantially diminished bloc.

The harder question comes later: can the parties opposed to Netanyahu actually work together? Diffley identifies disagreements over leadership and an unwillingness among some potential partners to cooperate with Arab parties. Adding seats on a chart does not resolve those political objections. "That is a major stumbling block," she says.

The segment has drawn more than 150,000 views in its opening 16 hours, far ahead of the channel's usual first-day audience for regular videos. Other FRANCE 24 reports on Netanyahu's possible route to a majority and the election-night surprises are also drawing unusually large audiences.

Diffley's explanation moves from voters' grievances to the decisions awaiting party leaders. President will consult them about whom they endorse for prime minister before assigning the task of building a coalition. The obstacle she returns to is not just the distribution of seats, but the distrust between the people who would have to govern together.
