Hospitals and a dormitory were damaged in a missile strike on Kyiv, while attacks on energy infrastructure brought power cuts in western Ukraine, according to Ukraine's Fakty ICTV news program. Its October 26 bulletin connects the immediate consequences of attacks with the pressures facing people seeking housing and businesses trying to keep operating.
Presenter Andriy Kovalskyi reports that a person was killed near a supermarket in the capital and seven others were injured. The program also warns that people could remain beneath rubble. A separate updated bulletin from the broadcaster puts the injury count at ten, including dormitory students.
The opening roundup reports casualties and destruction from Russian strikes on Kharkiv and the Donetsk-region settlements of Yasnohirka and Sloviansk. It then turns to an attack on energy infrastructure in Bukovyna, reporting outages in Chernivtsi region and electricity-cut schedules introduced by grid operator Ukrenergo.
A possible humanitarian opening follows. Citing Ukraine's General Staff, the bulletin announces a localized ceasefire around Oleshky in southern Ukraine intended to enable a humanitarian operation, with assistance attributed to US first lady Melania Trump. It does not establish that evacuations have been completed.
The program also reports Ukrainian drone strikes on a synthetic-rubber factory and a business center in Russia's Voronezh. In a separate item, it presents a UN commission's conclusion that Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure constitute war crimes.
Beyond the military roundup, finance executives at a Kyiv forum describe adapting operations to missile threats, protecting employees and relying on their own resources. Another concern is moving away from the Russian-origin accounting software 1C.
The housing report shows how approaching winter and displacement are increasing demand in Uzhhorod and Lviv, western Ukrainian cities far from the eastern front. Renters describe rising costs, while agents discuss apartments being taken within hours. Displaced resident Anastasiia Omelchuk expresses relief that she is at least not being evicted.
The final substantial segment covers the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv. Deputy parliamentary speaker Olena Kondratiuk identifies persistent pay inequality and unequal care responsibilities. First lady Olena Zelenska calls for equal pay to become a firm standard, alongside accessible spaces and safe schools and kindergartens with shelters so women can combine work and motherhood without exhaustion.
