Jennifer Lawrence confirms Katniss and Peeta’s return in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’

The camera operators were familiar. So was the assistant director. For Jennifer Lawrence, returning as Katniss Everdeen meant finding people she knew on both sides of the camera.

In a Call Her Daddy interview excerpt posted by Etalk, Lawrence describes reuniting with Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. "And Josh and Woody, and like, it was so emotional," she says. "It was so beautiful."

The Short reached about 289,000 views in 13 hours, far beyond Etalk's usual opening-day audience for the format. This is an excerpt from the podcast, not an interview conducted by Etalk.

Hutcherson plays Peeta Mellark, while Harrelson plays Katniss and Peeta's mentor, Haymitch Abernathy. Sunrise on the Reaping centers on Haymitch's younger years, making the return of the familiar trio a particularly intriguing part of the film. Etalk's description says it opens next month.

Lawrence also jokes that Harrelson entered her hotel room through the window rather than using the door. That anecdote gives the reunion a less solemn finish, and viewers are drawing parallels between the actors' rapport and their characters' dynamic.

Others are discussing how the returning characters will appear. One popular comment welcomes the prospect of discovering that in the theater. The excerpt confirms the reunion without explaining how Katniss and Peeta fit into Haymitch's earlier story.
