Inde Navarrette attempts Rogue’s Southern accent from ‘X-Men’

The accent isn't finished. Inde Navarrette is happy to give Etalk a taste of Rogue's Southern drawl, but she makes no secret of how much work is still ahead.

Asked for a sneak peek of her X-Men character's voice, she admits she hasn't practiced much yet. The interviewer makes the request manageable: just try saying "sugar." Navarrette obliges, laughs, then explains that she'll keep working on it and talk with the Marvel team about the direction to take.

It's a red-carpet tryout, not a finished performance. That distinction gives the short its charm: an actor being asked to produce a character's recognizable sound before she's settled on it.

The clip has drawn about 63,000 views in roughly half a day, putting it far ahead of Etalk's usual Shorts start. In the comments, viewers are getting specific about pronunciation, especially how little of the final "r" should survive. Others focus on giving Navarrette room to develop her interpretation rather than expecting the finished Rogue on demand.

For her part, Navarrette treats the tiny preview as a starting point. The next step, she says, is more practice and a conversation with Marvel.

Aww I love how sweet she is, I wouldn’t blame her for being nervous as any new marvel character on screen is going to bring some very diehard fans to the forefront. Hopefully Marvel will give her the support she deserves.
