A fourth-quarter throw to Raleek Brown finally gave the Longhorns their first lead in Columbia. Texas went on to beat Missouri 34-20, keeping its College Football Playoff hopes alive, but the route there was considerably less comfortable than that final margin suggests.

ESPN College Football's highlights had more than 600,000 views in seven hours, already far beyond the channel's usual full-day audience for regular uploads. The comments were unusually busy too, with much of the discussion focused on what counted as a catch.

Missouri twice saw apparent completions overturned. An early touchdown pass to Naeshaun Montgomery became an incompletion after review, leaving the Tigers to settle for a field goal. Later, Cayden Lee's diving catch was overturned because he had not maintained possession through the ground. Viewers repeatedly question that second decision, while others debate a fumble ruling.

Eli Drinkwitz supplies the thread connecting those moments. "We're playing to win. We just got to get some of these reviews to go our way," the Missouri coach says during the broadcast.

There is plenty of football between the reviews. Montgomery breaks away for a long touchdown reception, before Manning finds Jermaine Bishop Jr. for the tying score and then Brown in the back corner of the end zone to put Texas ahead.

The Texas-Missouri upload was not ESPN's only fast-starting game package: Utah's win over BYU and Arizona's narrow victory over TCU also drew unusually large audiences. Alongside the TCU highlights, a separate Short isolates a dropped kickoff that put Arizona in field-goal range.

  • I remember our coach used to hammer us that if that ball is on the field you pick it up he didn’t care if the play was called dead an hour ago the ball doesn’t sit on the field without us getting on it or you are running.
