Doctor Who takes a motorbike up the skyscraper wall
Matt Smith's antigravity stunt joins two regeneration anniversaries and Varada Sethu's Whoniverse Show visit across five uploads.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Eleventh Doctor in the 2074 anti-gravity Olympics when? 🏍️ #doctorwho #shorts
The building is in lockdown. Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor has a motorbike and an answer that makes the locked doors rather irrelevant: ride up the outside.
That scene from The Bells of Saint John supplied Doctor Who's most-watched new upload this week, reaching roughly 77,000 views. Before setting off, the Doctor explains that he rode the bike in the antigrav Olympics and came last. Even his sporting disappointments come with unusually useful equipment.
Viewers are doing the calendar maths for those future Olympics, while others single out the scene's music. One describes using it for the wedding party's entrance at their reception, a lovely reminder that these television moments acquire lives well beyond their episodes.
The archive supplied two substantial anniversaries, too. William Hartnell's regeneration into Patrick Troughton received both a Short and a longer compilation. Tom Baker's Gallifreyan robes returned for the fiftieth anniversary of The Deadly Assassin, and that costume clip is now attracting the most daily views of any upload on the channel.
Away from the throwbacks, Varada Sethu joined Tia Kofi on The Whoniverse Show to revisit playing Mundy Flynn and Belinda Chandra. The episode includes memories of filming Lux and The Well, a surprise message from Archie Panjabi, fan questions and a drawing challenge.
Across the whole channel, the library added about 1.5 million views over the week, with subscribers unchanged. Daily viewing is currently around half again its usual level. Among neighbouring television channels, Paramount Plus had a much larger viewing week, while Doctor Who's weekly audience was close to Netflix Sports'. Here, the strongest fresh momentum belongs to Baker swapping his familiar scarf for Time Lord ceremony.
