  6. 17:55Heavy lumber planks are prepared, joined and sanded for the countertop.

"I don't think I enjoy building cabinets," Danie admits midway through a project designed to make her creative life easier. The hobbies aren't going anywhere, so the storage has to change.

DIY In Progress's only new upload, "how i created custom storage for ALL my hobbies", reached roughly 44,000 views in its first fourteen hours. Danie starts with a sketch for cabinets fitted to the studio's knee wall, then gets into the less glamorous business of mapping plywood cuts and assembling boxes with pocket screws. Open backs leave access to outlets and save some weight, a useful consideration when Vanessa joins her to carry everything upstairs.

There's a substantial lumber countertop to make, too. This is storage built around the room rather than another container squeezed into it. The video includes a sponsored personal-finance segment.

Viewers have turned the unfinished design decisions into a lively workshop conversation. Several prefer floating shelves to cubbies; others want to leave breathing room above the counter. Cabinet-door suggestions range from a four-season scene to a continuous nerdy mural, while some ask for a separate craft-supply purge and organizing video. Apparently, building the storage is only half the hobby.

The new build is the channel's busiest video right now. Vanessa's renter-friendly entryway makeover is also drawing viewers, followed by the English cabin-style office and library made for Danie and her husband, Geoff.

Subscribers held steady across the week, while the channel added nearly 100,000 views. Its daily viewing is currently below its usual level. Among nearby home-and-DIY channels, Chris Garage78 had a much larger viewing week and Dainty Diaries also drew a substantial audience. Back in Danie's studio, the immediate question is more practical: shelves, cubbies, or enough empty counter space for a coffee break?

What viewers say

  • Four cabinets automatically had me thinking using either a scene or colour schemes that tie in with Spring, Summer, Autumn/Fall and Winter, and so symbolising how Creativity is a year round thing.

  • So pumped for this. The "it might be useful one day" speaks to my soul as well as my ancestors.

  • Yes. The organization system that works for crafters is probably mythical

  • I would totally watch a video of you purging and organising all your craft supplies
  • I like the breath of open space above the cabinet. It also makes a nice "bar height" resting spot for a coffee break. Maybe no storage above, just something beautiful and creative.

  • Idea for the cabinet fronts: funky, nerdy mural. Like artsy R2D2 hanging out in a forest with Gandalf on one side and things of that nature spread throughout.
  • You know the flower mural you did as a background in your old studio space? Do another one of those! Make it a call back!

  • I vote shelves and not cubbies!

  • Great job so far. I would suggest something that reaches across the whole unit, otherwise it is liable to look too busy. Pick a theme and unite the cabinets around that. Looks like once you are done with this cabinet, a decluttering and reorganizing video may be next - that's a lot of stuff in that green cabinet.

  • Omit the cubbies idea and even the shelves. It's good to have an uncluttered space above. The cabinets turned out great. I like the idea of a design that goes across all the cabinet doors.
