Air Cadets supervisor assaulted at Hamilton mall, unable to walk: family
Kenneth Kunkel's family says his long-term recovery remains uncertain after an assault at a Hamilton shopping plaza left him unable to walk.
The Canadian Armed Forces member had been supervising Air Cadets distributing Remembrance Day poppies at The Centre on Barton on Sunday. CP24's report shows his photograph in uniform alongside footage of the plaza and poppy distribution.
According to the police account relayed in the report, an air horn was blown into cadets' ears. Kunkel followed those involved into a restaurant to confront them and was subsequently assaulted. His family says he underwent spinal surgery. CP24 reports that aggravated assault charges have been laid.
The Short reached about 73,000 views in eight hours, an unusually fast start for CP24's short-form reports. The broadcaster has also posted a separate report by Mike Walker featuring the family's account of the attack and Kunkel's uncertain recovery.
