CoasterFan2105 revisits Metrolink's cab cars, one number at a time
Mike Armstrong traces how Southern California's older double-deck cars lost their driving role but largely stayed on the rails.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What happened to Metrolink's old cab cars? Many haven't disappeared at all. As Mike Armstrong explains in CoasterFan2105's only new upload this week, most continue as trailing coaches, even though newer equipment took over at the front of the trains.
"Old Metrolink Cab Cars: 601 - 637" begins with the fleet's history, from the original deliveries in 1992 to later additions and the overhaul program that removed cab components. Then the history lesson becomes a numbered procession of archive footage, working through most of the fleet. Armstrong's observation gives it a personal anchor: "It's been many years now since I've seen one of Metrolink's older Bombardier cab cars in the lead of a train."
The upload has reached roughly 23,000 views. In the comments, preservation is a recurring subject: viewers wish for an intact cab car or a complete set to survive, while others point to particular horn sounds as reminders of childhood. For these readers, a fleet number is rather more than a label.
Elsewhere, speed remains the archive's draw. "NEW Amtrak Acela Express Avelia Liberty Fast Trains" is adding the most daily views among the channel's active highlights, closely followed by "Fast Diesel Trains 2!" The latter brings passenger and freight trains from the US and Canada together and has passed 1.2 million views.
Subscribers held steady this week, while daily viewing is currently well above its usual level. Among nearby aviation-and-machinery channels, MURPHYS DIESEL also has elevated viewing and subscriber growth, while Captain Steeeve is closer to its normal daily audience. CoasterFan2105's week pairs those busy fast-train uploads with something more methodical: a record of Metrolink equipment that no longer works quite as it once did.

This is incredible. I always wanted to see these guys in action but alas I missed the chance to see that happen but I will say that I hope a 3-4 car set including a cab car ends up in preservation to show the whole metrolink set as a few still sit in Keller Yard not being used. Thanks for this video Mike!
